THE Queen’s Lower and Ashton Hayes Primary have been named top primary schools in the North West in the Parent Power league table, published in The Sunday Times last week.

The independent primary school for girls, on Liverpool Road, was ranked 14th out of the top 100 prep schools in the country.

Ashton Hayes Primary School came 24th in the state primary league, up from 121st last year, and Helsby Hillside Primary School in Frodsham was ranked 48th.

The independent table was based on an aggregate score of level 5 SATs from 2007 – 2009 and the state table was based on level 4 scores from the same period.

Headteacher of the Queen’s Lower School Felicity Taylor, said: “Our success comes down to a simple recipe; inspirational teachers and keenly motivated pupils.

“The school educates girls to a very high standard whilst also giving them the opportunity to excel in a broad range of other areas too, both in and out of school.”

Chris Priddey, headteacher of Ashton Hayes, said: “I am delighted. This reflects the high standards and excellent progress that the children make whilst at Ashton Hayes.”

The Queen’s School (senior) was the only Chester school in the top 100 independent secondary schools, ranked 88th, down from joint 46th last year.

No state secondary schools in the area made it to the top 100, which was ranked according to 2010 GCSE and A level results.
