TARVIN Primary School pupils have been around the world in five days.

The youngsters took part in a multicultural week to celebrate life in other countries.

Headteacher Jean Nield explained: “Each class represented a different country and the children were given their own ‘passports’ to travel around.”

During their journey, the children got to visit Mexico, India, Italy, Thailand, Australia, Holland and Kenya.

Staff in the school canteen joined in the fun by dishing up food from a different country each day.

Other activities included a workshop with Indian dancer Kajil Sharma, a Junior Chefs’ Academy making Caribbean food, mask making and Thai kite making.

The school’s international work was recently honoured by the British Council.

Representatives travelled to London earlier this year to receive the International School award, in recognition of what they do to raise awareness of other cultures.

Jean Nield added: “We were thrilled to have this recognition of all the work we do. It is important for the children to be aware of other cultures in this big, wide world.”

The school has links with schools in Norway, France and New Zealand and the children learn French.
