CHILDREN gave up their holidays to help clean up their play area.

The 13 youngsters were helping restore the playground off Old Hall Road in Leftwich in an initiative organised by Chris Doyle and Pete Antoney, the area's community safety wardens.

They were given a Mini Warden Club T-shirt and the equipment necessary to carry out the task and managed to collect 20 bags of rubbish.

Chris said: 'I would like to say a big thank you and well done to all the children who gave up their free time to take part in this initiative.

'I must also thank the parents who helped supervise the clean up and the local shops for supplying sweets, pop and crisps so the children could have a snack at the end of the clean-up.'

Chris is holding a meeting at 7.30pm on Monday at the Church of the Good Shepherd to talk about other activities that could be organised for all age groups. Everybody is welcome to come along but Chris is particularly keen to see more teenagers.

His next planned initiative is for older youths and is a sponsored 'Superstars Challenge' backed by LA Fitness to be held on September 13.
