FIRE has destroyed the Robin Hood pub in Helsby.

At about 1.50pm today, Cheshire Fire and rescue Service and Cheshire Constabulary were called to a report of a fire at a disused pub in Helsby.

Five fire appliances from Runcorn, Widnes, Frodsham, Stockton Heath and two aerial appliances from Chester and Stockton Heath all attended as firefighters battled to contain the flames.

Police also remain at the scene where the roof of the pub’s accommodation area has already begun to collapse.

The A56 Chester Road and Robin Hood Lane are both closed to traffic in the interests of the safety of the local community and to allow emergency vehicles ready access to the scene.

There are no reported casualties.

A fire investigation team is looking into the possibility that there were two separate fires in the building.
