REFURBISHMENT is being carried out to the Princess Street toilets in Chester city centre.

Whilst the work is carried out the toilets will be closed until Monday, December 27 and will be carried out as quickly as possible to minimise disruption.

Cheshire West and Chester Council and Chester Renaissance are working in partnership on the project.

Councillor Max Drury said: “The refurbishment includes the replacement of fixtures and fittings where necessary.

“We apologise for the closure however I am sure that the refurbishment will be welcomed by both residents and visitors.”

During the closure period the nearest public convenience is situated across the road at the bus terminal and the automatic toilet is available. Alternately there are toilets on Frodsham Street and facilities can also be used at Dial House and the Coach House Pub.

Chester Renaissance chief executive, Rita Waters, said: “These works are much needed to bring the facilities up to the standard you would expect in a city such as Chester.

“Whilst the work is being carried out, many premises in the area will be displaying a 'community toilet scheme' sticker in their windows which means the general public can use their toilets.”

“The automatic public convenience at the bus station will be free of charge for the duration of the works and signs notifying the closure and alternative provisions will be in place to keep everyone informed."
