A CREWE priest served his flock from a different angle when he went to work behind the counter at a newsagent's.

Father Charles Razzall, from St Michael's Church, Coppenhall, completed a variety of daily tasks for D&N Newsagents in Broad Street on Friday.

He was more than happy to get involved, believing that it is beneficial to experience all life in the parish.

He said: 'Most priests worth their salt try to broaden their horizons and put themselves around the community, as all experience can be taken back and used at the altar.'

Store owner David Preedy was surprised by the request but impressed by Father Charles's work ethic. He said: 'He did everything that was asked and he picked everything up really quickly.

'He surprised a few of the younger customers who at first thought he was just someone dressed up.'

Co-owner Nicola Price was equally impressed. She said: 'At first we thought he was joking when he asked to do it but he was a really good worker.

'He had to sit on a stool in the afternoon as his legs did get a bit tired, but he said this was because he was used to kneeling.

'I would definitely recommend him to any other businesses in the area!'
