FESTIVAL fever is taking a grip in Tilston as residents look forward to the annual bank holiday Tilston Wakes.

The three-day festival begins on Saturday, August 26, at 5pm with the traditional crowning of the lord mayor and Miss Wakes in the village square.

Tarporley Brass Band will then accompany the procession of floats as it makes its way to the playing fields.

The Wakes continue the following day with a sponsored bed push to Farndon at 11am.

The annual terrier and lurcher show is at 1pm on the playing fields, followed by a donkey derby with a bar and barbecue at 2pm.

The day is rounded off by the lighting of the bonfire at 7pm for the roasting of the ox, accompanied by a barbecue and funfair.

The fun on the Monday kicks off at noon, with attractions such as a falconry display, funfair, Barbarian stunt man, surfing splash pool and vintage car show.

At 4pm a special guest will carve the first piece of the ox and auction it. This will be followed by a tug of war at 5.30pm.

There will be tea, snacks and a bar available all afternoon.

Admission is £3 for adults, £2 for senior citizens and free for under-16s.
