A PRE-SCHOOL nursery in Rossett has hatched up a cracking scheme to raise money for charity, while giving the children real-life nature lessons.

Rossett House Nursery has eggs-tended its boundaries to accommodate three hens and a luxury chicken coop.

And the eggs they lay are being sold to parents, to raise money towards the sponsorship of a three-year-old child in Zambia.

The hens Rosie, Daisy and Penny, are huge favourites with the nursery’s under-fives, who help feed and water them and collect their eggs every day.

“Lots of children don’t realise where eggs come from, so we’re fortunate to have a rural location, with lots of space, so children can see the hens at first hand,” said managing director Peter Graham.

“We’re also receiving regular reports from our friend Sunday, who we’re sponsoring in Zambia, so the children are very excited to hear about his home and his country.”

He added: “We already have an outdoor role play village and a vegetable patch and our eggs-periment with hens has been such a success we’re planning to eggs-pand our outdoor play provision even further.”
