A COMPANY which runs swimming classes for mothers and their new-born babies has won a national award.

Water Babies, which holds sessions at the Mill Hotel and the Holiday Inn in Chester, has been named Best Children’s Activity Provider by baby charity, Tommy’s.

The presentation was made at their Let’s Get Baby Friendly Awards ceremony held in London.

Tracey Allison, who runs Water Babies in Chester and Ellesmere Port with partner Alison Ogden, said: “We are all incredibly proud of our achievement.

“Here in Chester we only started classes three years ago and now teach over 900 babies per week.

“We all absolutely love our jobs and to receive this kind of recognition is just the icing on the cake. We are so proud of the work that all our team of instructors do.

“It takes a lot of dedication and stamina to be a Water Babies instructor, but the rewards we get from our mums and babies far outweigh the effort.”

Chester instructor Lindsey McKenna said: ‘It’s so exciting watching a parent see their baby swim underwater for the first time, but most importantly it’s so worthwhile.

“Last year alone nationally we know our classes saved the lives of three toddlers, and locally one of our own toddlers hit the press after falling into their swimming pool at home which we know her class saved her life.”

Chief executive Jane Brewin said: “We are incredibly proud to be able to reward and recognise those that are making a difference.”
