AN award-winning country pub remains closed more than a month after it shut in mysterious circumstances.
The Fox and Barrel at Cotebrook closed days before Christmas without any notice.
Christina Panayi, spokeswoman for Punch Taverns, which owns the premises, said: “It still isn’t open at the moment. It’s closed short term. We are trying to sort things out to get it open again for business as soon as possible and recruit the right people.”
Customers hoping to celebrate Christmas meals at the pub found locked doors and a ringing telephone on their arrival, leaving families, friends and work colleagues, who had paid deposits, with empty pockets and empty stomachs.
The popular pub was named Cheshire dining pub of the year by North West lifestyle magazine InOut in 2005 and was awarded Cheshire Diners Pub of the Year in the 2003 Good Pub Guide.
It currently carries ‘Les Routiers’ seal of approval synonymous with quality hospitality and value for money.
