Residents and business people can get the latest updates on a £300m city centre regeneration scheme by popping into drop-in sessions taking place this week as well as over the next few months.
Everyone is welcome to visit the Palatine Room inside Chester Town Hall this Thursday (November 3), between 4pm-7pm, to view the Northgate Development plans and ask any questions.
Chester Northgate is set to deliver around 500,000 sq ft of new retail, restaurant and leisure facilities in place of the current bus exchange and Forum Shopping Centre.
Planning permission has now been granted for the scheme that will include a department store, shops, new market hall, restaurants, multi-screen cinema and parking.
Delivered in two stages, the first phase of construction is scheduled to start in autumn 2017.
Picturehouse will be the operators of a six-screen cinema providing more than 715 seats on the upper levels of the scheme, with a ground-level foyer and café bar opening onto the new Market Square and Hunter Street.
Chester Library will be moving into the new Storyhouse cultural centre in the new year and their building will be converted into restaurants and a gateway into the Market square through the middle arch by creating an opening at the rear.
A new market hall will replace the current Chester Market and a new 167-bedroom, four-star hotel and conference centre will be built as a replacement for the existing Crowne Plaza hotel which will be demolished to make way for the department store.
Councillor Brian Clarke , cabinet member, economic development and infrastructure, said: “The new drop-in sessions are just one way to follow this exciting development. The website chesternorthgate.com includes the plans and artist impressions. Important updates are also available through a new newsletter that can be subscribed to online.
“The Northgate team are currently working on the specifications for the new market and are seeking views at the drop-in and also through a survey next month.”
After this Thursday, the following drop-in sessions will be on Tuesday, December 6 and Thursday, January 12.
