FORMER barmaid Jane Dodd is happy dealing with a new breed of customer after winning a planning dispute over her dog grooming business.

Mother-of-two Jane has run Cutting Edge from her home in Parkfield Drive at Nantwich since March 2005.

But an investigation was launched after Environmental Health received a complaint over the noise of dogs barking.

A retrospective application was made to Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council for planning permission but that triggered objections.

Councillors ruled the business could continue operating provided its opening hours were restricted to 9.30am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, and 9.30am to 12.30pm on Saturdays.

Jane is getting a helping hand from her husband Richard.

He said: 'On her training course Jane was told planning permission was not required unless she groomed more than six dogs a day.

'A large number of households in the immediate vicinity own dogs and we knew the business would cause not more dog noise than a domestic situation.'

The business is operating from a converted garage.

Planners have given the go ahead for a trial period of two years.

A council spokesman said: 'It is accepted the business will have an impact on the residential amenity of the area.

'But with conditions over the number of pets, hours of operation and limited area of business activity, it is considered acceptable.'
