AN unemployed former soldier claims the demand for migrant workers in South Cheshire is going too far after spotting a job advert seeking Polish-speaking applicants.

Sam Dowling, 39, of Heathbank Cottages at Nantwich, says the advert at Nantwich Jobcentre Plus by Posh Pets Bedding Ltd is unfair to English workers.

The advert for a general warehouse worker at the firm's Marshfield Bank depot in Crewe said: 'No experience necessary. Polish speaking would be an advantage.' The former 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery soldier said: 'I am desperate for a job before Christmas after being out of work for six months.

'I went on the machine to search for vacancies and came across the warehouse one. When I read the description I was fuming because to me it implies that only Polish speakers need apply.

'I am not racist in any way, but I think it is disgusting when finding a job in Crewe and Nantwich is already like winning the lottery.'

Posh Pets Bedding managing director Joseph Spencer said: 'We do a lot of business in Germany and Poland and we wanted someone who could speak the language.

'We got the Jobcentre to advise us what to write and have now filled the vacancy with a lady from Crewe.'

A Nantwich Jobcentre Plus spokesman said: 'Jobcentre Plus will accept vacancies for all types of jobs. The only exceptions are where national minimum wage pay is not guaranteed, where jobs breach or appear to breach the law or where ministers have deemed the type of vacancy as unsuitable to be handled by Jobcentre Plus.'
