CHESTER residents are being warned to be on their guard following reports of bogus phone calls.

Police in the city have received three reports of calls made to residents in which the caller has claimed to be from Cheshire Constabulary and has subsequently asked a number of personal questions.

In each case they have claimed to be conducting a survey and then go on to ask if there is a man in the house.

Police Community Support Officer Keith Bartlett, of Chester Outer Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said: “I want all residents to be aware of this issue as we are rarely involved in cold calling and would certainly never ask who else was in the household.

“I would advise anyone who receives one of these calls not to give out any information and to contact us immediately on 0845 458 0000.

“We are not carrying out any form of survey at present and it is likely that the people making the calls are engaged in some form of criminal activity.

“Fortunately it would appear that no criminal offences have taken place as the people who have reported the incidents to us have so far refused to hand over any details.

“I want all residents to follow this example, remain vigilant and report any suspicious calls to Cheshire Police.”
