DETECTIVES investigating the murder of Sandbach man Peter Harris say a number of witnesses who have failed to come forward could hold the clue to his killer's identity.

Police are keen to speak to two men who saw the 61-year-old, from Town Fields, walking into the alleyway in Sandbach where his body was discovered three weeks ago, after he died from head injuries.

The pair were seen on CCTV at 11.30pm - six hours before a member of the public found

Mr Harris' body - in a car park behind Iceland, in High Street on Friday, August 5.

Officers also want to speak to three men heard shouting at about 2.30am. Two wore white shirts and one was wearing a dark coloured shirt.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Price said: 'There are people who were out in Sandbach who we have not yet spoken to and it is vital we do.'

Mr Harris was a regular in town centre pubs, and had become a well-know face after moving from Woburn, near Milton Keynes, six months ago.

At the time of his death he was wearing a green anorak with red piping. It is believed that at about 11.30pm he left the Old Hall Public House with a 22-year-old female associate. The woman was arrested soon after the discovery, but has been released without charge.
