Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious sexual assault in Chester on Monday, February 2.

A man, who is in his 20s, was assaulted near the footbridge over the canal between Cambrian Road and Upper Cambrian Road sometime between 10.30pm and 11pm.

The offender is described as white, aged between 40 to 50-years-old and of average build.

He drove a red car and was wearing a long trench coat and brown lace-up boots, one of which had no lace.

DI Clare Coleman said: "This is obviously a very concerning incident and I want to reassure people that extra officers have been patrolling the area, while detectives are working to establish the identity of the offender.

"Incidents like this are thankfully rare, however we would always urge people to follow basic safety advice and not walk alone, especially at night - try to stick to well-lit areas and always make sure someone knows where you are going and when you should be back."
