POLICE have confirmed the identity of the victim left fighting for his life after he was assaulted in a Chester bar.

David Thomas, 38, of Johnstown, Wrexham, is described as being in a serious condition at Countess of Chester Hospital after he suffered serious head injuries.

Mr Thomas was involved in an incident at about 11.30pm in Temple Bar, Frodsham Street, last Friday.

Alan Gilmartin, 30, of Sycamore Drive, Lache, appeared at Chester Magistrates Court yesterday (Monday, March 22) in relation to the incident.

Gilmartin is now due to appear at Chester Crown Court on April 26 for a preliminary hearing on a wounding charge.
