POLICE are warning Chester royalists they will not tolerate haphazard street parties to celebrate tomorrow’s royal wedding.

Officers are preparing themselves for a possible increase in anti social behaviour, drunken crime, and underage drinking as royal wedding fever hits Chester.

Extra officers will be targeting areas highlighted as ‘hotspots’ in anti social behaviour on the day, and scouring the streets for party-crashers and unauthorised street parties.

Inspector Phil Hodgson, who will be heading up the force tomorrow, said: “We will not tolerate unauthorised street parties which block roads. If that happens ambulances and fire engines couldn’t access the area if an emergency should arise.

“This is a celebration that everyone should enjoy. We realise that people will be drinking throughout the day, but we will not tolerate any troublemakers who ruin it for everyone else.”

Police say they are not expecting any trouble on the day of the wedding and have confirmed that they are aware of events at pubs across Chester.

“If anyone is planning a street party they need to have confirmed it with the police and the local authority. We will not be allowing anything that threatens people’s safety,” added Insp Hodgson.
