POLICE investigating a robbery in Chester city centre have issued a photograph of a man they would like to speak to.

On Monday, April 21 at 7.30pm, an elderly couple in their 70s were walking on the city walls close to Eastgate Clock.

They stopped just past the clock where the footpath has been closed off for work to be done.

A young man came up behind the woman and violently snatched her bag off her shoulder.

The woman valiantly tried to keep hold of her bag but it was pulled from her hands in the struggle, causing a slight injury to her wrist.

The thief jumped from the walls and ran towards the city centre.

The couple, who were visiting the city on holiday, were left shaken by the city centreincident.

Chester police investigating the incident say the thief is described as white, aged in his late teens to early 20s, approx 5'8 - 5'9 tall and of medium build.

The photograph shows a man on the walls before the incident.

Police would like to speak to him as they believe he can help with the investigation.

The bag is still missing and is described as a rectangular tapestry bag in blue with a colourful pattern round the bottom.

It has a long shoulder strap and zipped pockets.

It contained a quantity of artist’s materials which are also missing.
