A POLICE investigation has been launched after violence erupted between rival football supporters at Chester’s train station.

The clash between Chester and Wrexham fans took place at the station at about 7.45pm on Saturday.

Onlookers were said to have dived into the station’s coffee shop during the altercation, which allegedly involved about 20 people. It broke out when Wrexham supporters arrived in Chester from the team’s match at Southport.

Bins and wet floor signs were said to have been used as missiles during the trouble.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “We were called at around 7.45pm on Saturday following reports of an altercation between supporters of Wrexham and Chester.

“We attended, as did colleagues from Cheshire police, but those involved had left the station prior to police arrival.”
