Police are investigating an incident at a Chester McDonald’s after two men appeared to cut up lines of cocaine on a table in front of shocked families.
McDonald’s in The Forum has passed CCTV footage on to officers in a bid to identify those involved in the incident which is believed to have happened on the morning of Tuesday, November 26.
A female eyewitness, who does not wish to be named, told The Chronicle : “Yesterday a friend and I were sat with our two children aged under three in McDonald’s Chester Forum.
“It was between 11 am and 11.30am. Two men walked into the restaurant and sat directly behind us, they did not order food or drink. I got up to put some rubbish in the bin and noticed they had an open bag of cocaine on the table and were cutting it up into lines.
“They proceeded to sniff the drugs off the table, gave it a quick wipe with a napkin and walked out of the door. My friend and I could not believe what we had just witnessed and were in total shock.
“Before I had chance to tell a member of staff they had already left the restaurant. I don't think they would have approached them anyway. I feel strongly that parents should be aware exactly what their children could be eating off these tables, as they were not wiped straight away, and probably still contained traces of cocaine!”
McDonald’s franchisee Jeanette Roe said: “As soon as we were made aware of this incident, my restaurant team informed the police and provided them with our CCTV footage to enable them to investigate further.
“McDonald’s is a family-friendly restaurant and we have a zero tolerance policy on displays of criminal and/or anti-social behaviour. The safety and security of McDonald’s customers and employees is my first priority and any incidents of criminal or anti-social behaviour will be challenged and reported to the police.
“We are working collaboratively with the police and the Chester Business Against Crime group to see if there is any more we can do to prevent this from happening again in the future.”
Inspector Darren Griffiths of Cheshire Police said: “Chester Police are currently investigating an incident at a restaurant at The Forum in Chester which is believed to have occurred on the morning of 26 November 2013.
“As part of the enquiries to identify the two men who were acting suspiciously, officers are reviewing CCTV footage. Illegal drug activity is taken seriously by police. We would urge anyone who witnesses or suspects the use or sale of illicit drugs to contact police immediately on 101 in order for those responsible to be dealt with appropriately.”
