POLICE are preparing for one of their busiest days of the year on Friday as revellers take to the streets.

And they are warning trouble-makers they will get a nasty Christmas surprise.

The last working day before Christmas is traditionally a time many let their hair down, but police will be out in force making sure they don't ruin other people's celebrations.

Chief Insp Nick Adderley said: 'We are expecting a busy day on Friday and are fully prepared for it. Work has begun and extra officers are patrolling the streets of all the busy social scenes in Mid Cheshire.

'We know that alcohol does have an impact when it comes to problems with anti-social and violent behaviour.

'But our efforts are not about spoiling people's fun. We want people to have a good time without the worry of being caught up in a fight or being affected by anti-social, aggressive behaviour.'

The force says a no-nonsense approach is being adopted by officers who will give troublemakers on-the-spot fines, a night in the cells, a court appearance or even ban them from a town's pubs. Drink drivers will be banned or jailed.
