BOSSES hope pedal power will make a wheel difference to policing in Northwich.

Rudheath Community Action Team officers PCs Leanne Huddart and Robert Astbury have been kitted out with new bikes and safety gear to enable them to cover more ground.

PC Huddart said: 'Local people want to see us out and about. They want to be able to stop us in the street and talk to us about what's going on in the community and having officers patrolling on bikes rather than in cars means that is much easier to do.

'It also means lots of ground can be covered in a short space of time which is a real bonus.'

PC Astbury added: 'They also help us access areas which are out of bounds to a car and enable us to approach areas in a much quieter, more discreet way. These are massive benefits when it comes to catching offenders or monitoring a problem.'
