POLICE in Western Rural claim they’re cutting down on crime.

In the past month house burglaries have fallen by 15%, while vehicle crime has dropped by 20%.

The same period has seen a reduction in all acquisitive crime, including burglaries other than in dwellings, robberies from businesses and personal robberies, by more than 14%.

Inspector Hodgson said: “The figures for September are really encouraging and show we are heading in the right direction.

“Western Rural is a challenging area as many of our residents live in quite remote areas and can sometimes understandably feel as though they are isolated.

“The reductions show that we are committed to driving down crime and are succeeding, particular with those crimes that affect people in and around their homes.

“In fact in the past week we have charged one man with an offence of aggravated vehicle taking following an incident in Delamere and have also identified the culprit of three burglaries in the Tarporley area. These will be taken into consideration when he appears in court in relation to other matters already being dealt with.

“This week is national Not in My Neighbourhood Week and this is the perfect time to send a message to crooks thinking of operating in Western Rural that police and residents will not tolerate criminal activity.”

He added: “Of course there will always be some who ignore all warnings and still seek to profit by stealing from or hurting others – this is where we can all work together.

“I want all residents to report all crimes and suspicious and anti-social behaviour to us. Only by gaining a true picture of what is happening in the area can I start to put plans in place to tackle the problems.
