POLICE are continuing to hunt for a sneak thief who stole thousands of pounds from a post office.

At just after 5.30pm on Friday, March 16, a thief sneaked into the shop on Main Street, Frodsham, and took thousands of pounds from the safe, while the postmistress was distracted by an electrical fault.

This is the second time that the branch has been targeted in less than two years, after armed robbers raided the family-owned shop stealing £20,000 and leaving staff shaken during a robbery in August 2010.

Cheshire Constabulary spokeswoman Shelly Williams said the theft had occurred while the member of staff was preparing to lock up for the night.

She said: “She was distracted by an electrical fault and when she momentarily left the post office to summon assistance a thief sneaked in and stole cash from the safe.”

Frodsham police inspector Keith Curbishley urged members of the public with any information about the theft to come forwards.

“It’s very unusual for a crime such as this to take place in our community, and I would like to reassure the public that our officers are doing all they can to bring the person responsible to justice,” said Insp Curbishley.

Anyone with information, or who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously around Main Street at the time of the crime, should call 101 and ask to speak to DC Jon Carter.
