POLICE came up with a grand gesture to back a youth club.
Chester Outer neighbourhood policing unit presented a cheque for £1,000 on behalf of Western Area Division towards the refurbishment of Upton Youth Club on Wealstone Lane.
There to pass on their thanks to Insp Jane Ingram, who heads up policing in the area, PC Jeff Cottrell and PCSO Melanie Johnson were youth workers Skippy Roberts and Jimmy Shaw, club vice chairman David Grantham and youngsters Rob Evans, Elliot Morgan and Nathan Shelton.
Police say they are showing their pride in the group by handing over the cash.
It will be used to pay for equipment when the club opens its doors again in the New Year.
'Youth clubs provide a really important service,' said Insp Ingram `and I'm pleased we can support facilities in Upton in this way.
'Most young people are law abiding citizens who make a positive contribution to our communities.
'This often goes unrecognised.' She added: 'I hope the donation shows young people they are valued.'
