A POLICE armed response unit arrived at a Chester club to deal with a drunk man in the early hours of Sunday.

Officers were called to the Brannigans night club in Foregate Street at 2.30am after staff at the club said a drunk man was being violent and aggressive after being refused entry to the venue.

The armed response unit rather than a normal police patrol car arrived at the club to the shock of revellers and the night club staff who had called them.

Police spokesperson Shelley Williams said: “The call usually goes out to those that are closest. They were in the area and responded to the call.

“As it was not an armed incident there was no need for those officers who dealt with the gentleman to be armed. The man in question was just moved on by the police.”
