Cheshire Police officers are appealing for information following an assault in Chester city centre.

The incident took place at about 2.30am on New Year’s Day within the grounds of Chester Racecourse.

The victim – a 20-year-old man – was smoking near to the burger van by the county stand when he was assaulted by an unknown man.

He sustained a serious facial injury – a broken jaw in three places – which required hospital treatment.

Officers are carrying out enquiries in relation to the incident and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

DC Jude Edwards said: “The victim was left with a serious facial injury as a result of the assault and required hospital treatment.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and we appeal for anyone who may have been at the racecourse in the early hours of New Year’s Day and has seen what has happened or has any information regarding the identity of the offender to get in touch.”
