A CELEBRATION of the spoken word is taking place in and around Chester’s city centre this weekend.

Chester Oyez! is part of the Shell Chester Literature Festival and promises “riveting, hair-raising, side-splitting tales.”

Pitched on Chester’s Cathedral Green all weekend will be a special storytelling tent with a full programme from 10am until 5pm on Saturday and noon till 3pm on Sunday. Highlights include dragon tales from author Margaret Bateson-Hill (Saturday 10 - 10.40 am).

Chester Rows will come alive at noon on Saturday as actor and dramatist John Gorman performs Rose Poems on the Rows.

The fun continues throughout Saturday evening with poets Lemn Sissay and Luke Wright performing at Alexander’s followed by Rosie Lugosi, Manchester’s vampire queen.

Other venues include Bishop Lloyd’s Palace on Watergate Row, the Juice Bar in Rufus Court and Chester Library.
