A CHESTER golf pro avoided trial by pleading guilty to motoring offences at the 11th hour.

Sean O'Connor, 32, of Regency Court, Winsford, was charged with failing to stop after an accident and with failing to report an accident.

He told magistrates that, without a car, he would be without a job.

His licence was endorsed with eight penalty points. He had three points from a previous speeding offence and would have been banned had he topped 12 points.

O'Connor, who works as a golf professional at The Chester Golf Centre in Saltney, crashed his Saab into a Citroen parked at Wetherspoons in Winsford.

O'Connor originally said he had no recollection of the accident, which damaged the Citroen to the tune of £274.95.

Tim Edgely, defending, said: 'This is a reluctant guilty plea. He's a man of previous good character.'

When quizzed by magistrates, O'Connor said: 'I travel 300 miles a week to get to work. Without a car, I have no job.'

Magistrates had the opportunity to dis-qualify O'Connor but opted to leave him with 11 points on his licence.

He has to pay £200 in fines and £274.95 in compensation.

Court costs of £120 were also awarded against him.
