CHILDREN, young people and families are invited to pack up a picnic and enjoy a series of activity-led Play Day events being held across West Cheshire.

Activities ranging from a climbing wall, water slide and bungee trampolines to arts, craft and dance ensure that there is something for everyone.

Visitors can also try their hand at the crazy golf; tackle the bucking bronco or try out an inflatable toddler play area.

“We have done everything possible to ensure that there is something for people of all ages at these jam-packed activity events.” said Executive Member for Culture and Recreation, Councillor Richard Short.

Taking place at a range of venues throughout the first two weeks in August, all events are free. No food and drink will be available at these events - so make sure you bring a picnic!

Funded by Cheshire West and Chester Council, The Big Lottery and the Northwich, Winsford, Castle Park and Chester Education Improvement Partnerships, the events aim to provide free, ‘risky’, challenging activities throughout the summer holidays.

The events will also provide swift and easy access to a range of organisations such as Connexions, Mid-Cheshire College, Women’s Aid, Home-start, children’s centres, the Library Service and School Nursing.

Councillor Short said: “Back by popular demand, these action-packed events will emphasise how play can motivate people of any age, but I must warn you – you will get wet and messy!

“A great way to bring together every generation, to share a picnic, fun, thrills and spills, a Play Day can certainly promise a great day out.

“The testament of so many families and friends who return each year shows what a great day out can be had by all, so come along and find out for yourself!”

Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Sports Development and Play Development Officers will also be on-hand to provide advice and information on encouraging play in young people all year round.

As parking at each of the venues is limited, the authority is encouraging West Cheshire residents to use public transport wherever possible.

Play Days will run between 11am-and 3pm on the following days at the following locations:

Tuesday, August 3 – Whalley Road Playing Fields, Northwich.

Wednesday, August 4 – Winsford Lifestyle Centre, Winsford

Thursday, August 5 – Castle Park, off Fountain Lane, Frodsham

Tuesday, August 10 – Westminster Park, Hough Green, Chester

Thursday, August 12 – Bunbury Green, Ellesmere Port

A shuttle bus will be in operation in Chester for the Westminster Park event, offering alternative transportation for residents.

The shuttle will run every 30 minutes with the exception of a lunch break.
