A CONTROVERSIAL housing development could be rejected next week - just as builders put the finishing touches to it.

Anaconda Investments is seeking retrospective planning permission erect eight new homes and six flats on land off Northwich Road in Weaverham.

Work began on the development last spring, but after complaints from residents, a council-appointed surveyor found that three of the plots were between 2m and 3m out of position compared to the plans.

It says this has most affected 4 Greenwood Close, saying it has had a 'significant' impact on the outlook from the home.

A report due to be considered by members of Vale Royal Borough Council on Tuesday night recommends retrospective permission be refused: 'The development, which is nearing completion, does not accord with the approved planning permission.'

The recommendation has been welcomed by Weaverham Cllr Richard Gorrill. He said: 'My desire is that the application is refused and the whole site is cleared and replaced with buildings in keeping with the rest of Weaverham.

'But that is not likely and so I feel the building adjacent to number four should be demolished and moved back to the position in which the inspector allowed it to be built.

'The council advised Anaconda Investments in August when that building was 8ft high it was out of position, and that it should stop building it until the issue was sorted out.

'But it took it upon itself to carry on building it - if it has to face great expense to take it down, it is Anaconda's fault.

'I hope Vale Royal Borough Council has got the bottle to stop millionaire developers riding roughshod over pensioners.'
