PLANS to reduce the speed limit along an accident hotspot between Saltney and Bretton have received support from both communities.

Saltney town councillors met to discuss the proposed reduction in the speed limit from 60mph to 40mph on the A5104 road from Broughton to Bretton, and from 60mph to 50mph from Bretton to Saltney.

Cllr Derrick Beddow said: I think this is perfectly reasonable and we should support the proposals.

Cllr Dennis Hope added: The other night I saw the light by St Davids High School which flashes if a driver speeds by. I watched 40 cars go by and the light never went out.

David McFarlane, Flintshire county councillor for the Broughton south ward, has also given his backing.

He said: Any reduction in the speed limit on this road is a plus.

As it stands, the road leads itself to people treating it as a straight run where they can put their foot down, and there have been a few fatalities on there.

The past doesnt lie and when you have people walking on that road, this reduction is definitely a step in the right direction.

Saltney Town Councils Veronica Gay also suggested a letter could be written to remind employees at the Airbus factory of the speed limit as they enter Saltney.
