A FORMER aerodynamicist correctly calculated that Lent would rush by.

Dr Mark Hart is now rector of St Peter’s, Plemstall and St John's, Guilden Sutton and earlier in the year he planned a Lenten pilgrimage.

The rector said he intended to dedicate time to visiting every home and each business in the two villages, which have a total population in the region of 3,750.

“My aim is to knock on the door of every home in each parish and also to visit each business,” he said.

“I do not know whether it will be achievable and if it takes longer than Lent then so be it.”

The rector said his four point mission would be to point out the churches are there for the whole community and not just for their congregations, to learn more about the two parishes, to pass on information about the churches and to have interesting conversations which may open up other possibilities.

Hundreds of doorsteps later, he has now completed the task.

“I counted a total of 839 homes”, said Dr Hart.

“It has been a privilege to talk to people and I have been able to get to know many a little better”.

The Rev Hart says he also counted 36 businesses.

“They are quite scattered and add up to more than one would expect,” he commented.
