STAFF at a rural Cheshire pub are celebrating after winning an annual company award.

The Shady Oak in Tiverton, near Tarporley, has been named as the Trusts Inns Food and Drink Experience of the Year 2008/9.

The pub, situated on the Shropshire Union Canal close to Beeston Castle, was awarded an overall mark of 99% after judges paid anonymous visits to the premises on Bate’s Mill Lane.

The Shady Oak was awarded the company honour for excellence in categories including service, food quality, cleanliness and gardens.

Licensee Dave Hughes, with 20 years experience in the industry and 10 spent at the Grosvenor Hotel in Chester, said the award was welcomed by his hard-working staff.

He said: “Everybody is made up with the award. It is down to high quality food and service and a lot of experience.

“We will be taking out the staff for a nice meal to celebrate.”
