PRINCESS Anne’s visit to Chester last week jogged the memory of a former mayor.

David Cotgreave, Mayor of Chester from 1982-83, remembers meeting the princess in the early days of his term of office.

He said: “It would have been the second or third day of my mayoralty in May 1982.

“Princess Anne visited the Riding for the Disabled group, which was then based in Rowton.

“She looked around and watched the youngsters riding on ponies.”

David, who lives in Tarvin, emailed a photograph of him and his wife Jean with the princess.

The Chester and Wirral groups of Riding for the Disabled merged in 1999 and it is now based at Foxes Riding School in Ledsham.
