PETROL prices in Cheshire are set to rise again after a 2p rise in fuel duty comes into effect from midnight tonight (Monday, August 31).

The increase – the third in nine months – will actually be 2.3p after VAT is included and will bring the average price of unleaded in the city to 106.9p and diesel to 107p per litre.

But supermarket chain Morrisons – which has branches at Liverpool Road, Chester and Chester Road, Whitby, Ellesmere Port – said it would not be increasing the cost of fuel at its forecourts until Sunday, September 6.

The next tax increase is on January 1, 2010 when the 15% VAT rate is due to return to 17.5%.
