Music mogul Pete Waterman braved the blazing hot sunshine to officially open the upstairs extension of Chester Model Centre on Saturday.

The new upper floor in the former Modelzone premises on Bridge Street, boasts the largest selection of railway, accessories, scalextric, diecast, remote control, and military railway kit models in the North West.

An increase in the store’s trade encouraged owner Paul Boyland to expand his store by opening the upstairs room for more space.

He said future additions to the store will include a comprehensive collection of railway, transport, military, aviation and bus books, with many at discounted prices, as well as a seated area with hot drinks and up-to-date transport and modeling magazines.

After officially declaring the new store open, self confessed railway enthusiast Waterman spent time chatting to the dozens of customers who turned up for the opening.

Paul said: “We had a great turnout, and Pete thought the shop was brilliant.

“He had opened my previous shop in Warrington but he was really impressed with this one - it was a hectic day but we really enjoyed it.”
