Cheshire West and Chester Council has postponed work on a key road due to the amount of disruptive digging taking place elsewhere in the city.

Resurfacing work to Parkgate Road in Mollington, which was due to begin on Monday, February 23, has now been put back until March in a bid to help reduce the disruption to roads around Chester in recent weeks.

Commuters have reached the end of their tether with the fallout from a £5.3m upgrade to the Posthouse roundabout which has caused gridlock across the city on a daily basis.

Drivers have been advised to use alternative routes until the work is finished at the end of March.

Meanwhile, a six-week project to replace road joints on St Martin’s Way begins today (February 17), meaning City Walls Road will be closed at its junction with St Martin’s Way to allow new reinforced elastomeric joints to be installed on the Nicholas Street viaduct.

This work is set to cause extensive traffic delays for drivers travelling through the city centre, one of the reasons CWaC have decided to postpone resurfacing work to Parkgate Road.

A CWaC spokesperson told The Chronicle: “Roadworks were meant to be taking place on Parkgate Road between the Mollington canal bridge and the junction between Townfield Lane on Monday. These have now been postponed until March to help alleviate the current disruption on the arterial road network in and out of Chester.

“We are working with our contractor to reprogramme the works in part of the section of Parkgate Road in Mollington.
