THE parents of teenagers alleged to have caused more than £100,000 damage at a South Cheshire factory face being made to foot the bill.

Two 14-year-old youths and another 16-year-old were arrested after an incident at Fine Art in Macclesfield Road, Holmes Chapel.

Now the wallpaper company has vowed to pursue the offenders through the civil courts to recoup its costs.

Sergeant Gareth Woods, of Congleton Police's Community Action Team (CAT), said: 'The company is seeking legal advice as they are considering taking out civil actions.

'I fully support their intentions. It goes without saying that this would be in addition to us pursuing the individuals through the criminal court.

'We estimate the amount of damage stands in excess of £100,000. The company has been working in partnership with the police for a period of time in an effort to curtail the number of youths loitering within the factory area at all times of the day and night.

'I view the fact that arrests have been made as a positive sign as to how we can impact upon crime and disorder if people are willing to work alongside us and assist us with our enquiries.'

The trio were arrested after an investigation by PCs Andy Gorman and Carl Hurst. They were interviewed at Northwich Police Station before being released on police bail. Further enquiries are being conducted.

Sergeant Clare Jesson, of the CAT, said: 'The door had been kicked in and the offenders had found a small fork-lift type vehicle to damage fittings and stock.'

The incident came days after the Chronicle revealed an action group is to be set up in a bid to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour at Holmes Chapel.

Sgt Woods labelled the village 'the worst problem area in the borough', with youngsters hanging round street corners causing trouble.

He said: 'I hope this gets through to parents that they need to take a much greater interest in what their kids are getting up to.'
