A special little girl called Erin captured the hearts of musicians James Coe and Rob McDonough who created their version of the Coldplay classic ‘Fix You’ just for her.
The two friends were moved by the life force of six-year-old Erin Cross from Upton, Chester, who was diagnosed with leukaemia back in 2012 but is now in remission.
Fix You was chosen because it brought hope to her mum and dad, Sarah and Antony, during the most testing of times.
And their cover version, available for viewing here on You Tube, was recorded at Great Barrow-based Faktory Studios which James co-owns with Simon Jones of The Verve.
James hopes to use his contacts to persuade Coldplay frontman Chris Martin to issue a special message to Erin, who loves singing and dancing.
In a direct tribute to Erin at the beginning of the video, Rob says: “People far and wide in the Chester community have followed your beautiful story since the beginning. Since we heard about your story on the internet and how much a certain song means to both yourself and your family we have put together our own little interpretation.”
James wants everyone to ‘share, share, share’ the You Tube video which also features pictures and footage of the extraordinary little girl. He knows Erin has come a long way but will need ongoing support on the road to full recovery.
He commented: “On behalf of myself, Rob, everybody at Faktory Studios and I’m sure the wider community, I would just like to say that your strength and bravery has been truly inspirational.”
Talking about the song, he continued: “So we hope you like it. It’s taken us a while but we have truly enjoyed it and it’s been an absolute privilege and we would love to meet you one day, Erin.
“And we have got all the Frozen songs on backing tracks so if you want to come and sing a song here, you would be more than welcome, we’d love to see you...and enjoy it.”
Members of the Chester community and across the globe responded to a social media campaign that helped smash the £100,000 needed to fund lifesaving treatment in America.
Now back from the States and in remission, Erin has been undergoing tests at Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool before having a life-saving bone marrow transplant.
Erin’s mum Sarah said of the recording: “Wow!!!! This is amazing!!! Such a tear jerker, Antony and I are very emotional after listening to this amazing version of ‘Fix You’ and watching the fantastic video.
