TWO men have been further remanded in custody on a charge of perverting the course of justice relating to the murder investigation of a North Wales widow.

Defendants John Andrew Thomas, 37, of Rhuddlan Court in Ellesmere Port, and Charles Jones, 32, of Alyn Road, Buckley, appeared at a preliminary hearing at Mold Crown Court on Friday.

Retired school cook Mrs Elsie Hughes, 90, died a day after being attacked in her home in Hawarden Road, Abermorddu, near Wrexham in September last year. Around £200 in cash had been stolen from her.

The case was adjourned to a plea and case management hearing and both were remanded in custody by Judge John Rogers QC.

The defendants will be asked to enter their pleas on May 12.
