THE peaceful grounds of Cholmondeley Castle will be broken by the screech of burning rubber this weekend as it makes way for the thrill-seeking event of the year.
A valuable collection of classic and modern racing cars, motorbikes, helicopters and boats will come together on August 9 and 10 for Cheshire’s first ever Pageant of Power.
To celebrate decades of motor racing, more than 120 vehicles worth over £100m will be showcased to enthusiasts in the picturesque gothic surroundings of the castle.
Spectators are sure to be blown away by the plethora of iconic vehicles showcased over the two days, namedropping some of the finest brands in motoring such as Austin Healey, Maserati and Ferrari. These unbeatable classic cars are to recreate motoring history as they dramatically race around a newly approved 1.2 mile course.
Motorcycles from the world over will also be showcased this weekend, incorporating some of Italy’s fastest and finest superbikes and, of course, the Hell’s Angels’ favourite - the Harley-Davidson.
As if that wasn’t enough to whet your appetite, the Pageant of Power is also giving visitors access to some classic and current circuit racing power boats on Deer Park Mere, which visitors can try out for themselves in the daily rides.
Events will also be taking to the skies, and spectators can look forward to a Eurocopter display, appearances of the well-known MASH bubble cabin helicopter, the first British Army helicopter and the Skeeter, a model made from canvas and wood.
Peter Rickitt, corporate financer and motor sport enthusiast, founded the event after identifying a gap in the market: “I have long thought that there was an unfulfilled need for people in the Midlands and North to have access to a high quality, motor sport orientated occasion, especially as these regions have a significant cadre of enthusiasts and collectors.”
The weekend is completed by locally sourced food and drink stalls, and a trade village for exhibitors and traders. Children can also experience a vintage fun fair and large scale Scalextric.
Tickets are priced £25 in advance or £30 on the day. Weekend tickets are £40 in advance. Under 16s free. Visit www.pageantofpower.com or call 01264 882 200.
