HOTEL owners are celebrating 10 years at a Willington country house by allowing the next generation to take over.
Stuart and Diana Begbie celebrated a decade at the hotel with a party on Sunday. Friends, family, staff, former staff and some of their most loyal customers gathered to celebrate the anniversary.
When the couple arrived at the hotel 10 years ago they decided they had to catapult it into the 21st century.
Diana said: “When we first came here we used to get letters requesting that we didn’t change things, I still have some of them.”
She added: “But things had to change.”
During their 10 years they refurbished all the bedrooms, adding en suite facilities to all of them. They then changed the layout of the reception area and moved the kitchen. They now have dining room seating for up to 50 people and conference facilities.
The couple are now stepping back and are handing over responsibility to their son Simon.
Diana said: “ After more than 50 years in the hotel industry it is now time to step back. Simon is now the manager - and Stuart and I are happy to fade into the background.”
