CHEESED-OFF management at a Crewe pizza shop have increased security measures after suffering two break-ins and an attempted burglary in the last six months.

Mike Ollier, manager of Perfect Pizza in Nantwich Road, fears the situation will get worse when the new 24-hour drinking laws come into force

He said: 'I am extremely annoyed about the situation as thieves have taken substantial amounts of cash and have broken store property.

'It's the sheer cheek of it that gets me, and it's something that we have to put up with along with other shops on Nantwich Road.

'The only choice I have is to implement my own improved security measures. I dread to think what it will be like when 24-hour drinking comes in.'

Neighbouring store Merben Music has also suffered. Owner Jamie Meredith said: 'It is extremely annoying. They took about six guitars and whatever money they could get their hands on.'

Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council's town centre manager for Crewe, Elaine Dodd said: 'There have been problems with the CCTV cameras that cover the area in the

past but they are all in full working order at the moment. It is always possible that more could be installed to help prevent these incidents.'

A spokesman for the Community Action Group for Crewe said: 'We aim to improve the safety of our community through crime reduction, community involvement and education. We have produced a strategy that will guide the partnership towards achieving this aim over the next three years.'
