UNIVERSITY of Chester students are invited to apply to join the Officer Training Corps – with the chance to travel, develop leadership skills and get paid.

The OTC covering the University of Chester has arranged two open days for interested would-be recruits to learn more. They take place today (Friday) and on October 6.

More information is also available at www.army.mod.uk/uotc/liverpool (then click ‘recruitment’).

Students picked to join the OTC would train either in Liverpool or Lancaster.

Like many students, Dan Carey has a part-time job to make ends meet while at university. Unlike many students, though, his part-time job is commanding a platoon of 30 officer cadets.

Dan, 23, holds the rank of Second Lieutenant in the Officer Training Corps (OTC), based at Crawford Hall, Mather Avenue, Allerton.

When he’s not swotting up for his degree, he’s hard at work with the OTC.

September is the time of year when the OTC mostly recruits its officer cadets, as new students begin their studies at colleges and universities.

Dan is also actively encouraging undergraduates to attend an open day tomorrow (Saturday) at Crawford Hall, starting at 3pm.

Interested students will be invited to a selection weekend, where they will then have the chance to become part of the close-knit unit of 140 officer cadets at the OTC.
