AN Olympic star and an equestrian champion will compete for the top prize at the Bolesworth Castle Show Jumping Classic this weekend.

Leading show jumper Di Lampard and Olympic athlete Geoff Billington, will show off their equestrian skills and compete for one of the largest prize funds in the country and a place in the Bolesworth Castle Grand Prix at the event on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Classic event will also feature a country fair with a host of attractions, including trade stands, craft fair, fairground rides, a fine food marquee with appearances from celebrity chef Brian Mellor and a very popular dog show, which attracted hundreds of entries last year.

Making a special appearance this year are the Lancashire Rescue Bears – a team of Newfoundland dogs who will be demonstrating their skills in the lake in front of the castle.

Another highlight of the weekend is a summer barbecue on Saturday with live entertainment, providing an enjoyable and relaxing family evening.

The two nominated charities for the event are Ronald McDonald House and the Catwalk Spinal Cord Injury Trust, an international organisation that raises funds for research into spinal injuries.

Organiser Nina Barbour says: “We are really excited by the line up for this year’s Bolesworth Classic. The response from competitors has been tremendous and we have a host of attractions across the three days to ensure that there really is something for everyone.”
