OLYMPIC legend Sir Steve Redgrave will help Chester teams complete a 24-hour rowathon for Children in Need.

The event, which will see teams from across Cheshire competing, takes place at 9am on November 16.

Organisers of the event, which will take place on static rowing machines provided by Concept2, inside the University of Chester sports hall, have set a whopping £250,000 as target to raise during the 24 hour marathon.

Up to 80 teams will take part in the event, one which has really captured the imagination of the sporting world as well as Corporate Cheshire.

Anne Ibrahim, chief executive ofSport Cheshire, said: “A 24 hour rowing marathon challenge is a fantastic opportunity for local residents of all ages and abilities to try their hand at an Olympic sport whilst raising much needed cash for Children in Need. As the strategic lead for sport and physical activity locally, we want to encourage as many people as possible to get active - so whether just for fun or for competition, we need you to get involved!'”

Others partners in the event include the University of Chester, the Redgrave Institute, The Chronicle and Dee 106.3, who all believe that with a real focus this can be one of the biggest fundraising events in the North West.

Anne added: “Sir Steve Redgrave will be on hand to help teams with their preparation and show just how the Olympic medallists prepare for events like this and we know that this will bring out the competitive spirit in many of our teams so there are special prizes for teams that have excelled in raising money and those who have rowed the furthest in the 24 hours.”

The event is limited to 80 teams and you can have as few or as many in your team as is necessary. Each team will have their own special giving page and all monies raised go directly to Children in Need.
