SILVER medallist and former Blacon High School pupil Rik Waddon revisited the school for a celebration evening.

Pupils and staff welcomed the cycling champion - team mate of Sports Personality of the Year winner Chris Hoy - on Thursday, January 15

Rik, who represented Great Britain at the paralympics in Beijing, spoke about his experiences in Beijing and offered advice to year 11 pupils and parents about motivation, commitment and success.

He also helped to give prizes out at the schools celebration of success evening.

Key Stage 4 manager Adrian Carr said: “Rik is an inspiration to us all. I believe the Year 11 pupils responded positively to what he had to say.”

Headteacher Ella Brett said the school was delighted that Rik was able to make a return visit to Blacon, adding: “It is a privilege to know that we have an Olympic sportsman as one of our ex-pupils, particularly since we are a successful sports college.”
