SPRIGHTLY Olive Webster was the toast of Northwich yesterday (Tuesday) when she celebrated her 101st birthday with not one but two parties.

The pensioner, who now lives at Essendene residential home for the elderly in Barnton, celebrated her big day with lunch at her favourite pub, The Stanley Arms at Anderton, followed by a party in the evening.

A widow for more than 40 years, Mrs Webster was joined on her big day by son Geoffrey, 64, who jetted in from Malta, and friends including her friend and carer Jackie Dennison.

Jackie, who often takes her into town for lunch, said: 'She is more like a woman in her 80s than someone over 100. Apart from a problem with her eye sight she is in very good health and loves to socialise with people.'

Mrs Webster, who puts her longevity down to country living, was born and bred in Manchester but moved to rural Mid Cheshire shortly after her marriage.

She and husband Keith lived for many years in a house he built for them in Antrobus. When he died 40 years ago, Mrs Webster carried on living on her own until 2005 when she moved to the County High School, Leftwich.
